How To Get Poor Quick
II Corinthians 8:7-15
The last few weeks I’ve been talking about doing a lot with a little. I talked about the mustard seed, and how the kingdom of God starts out surprisingly small before growing like a weed. I talked about David and Goliath, and how we are often tempted to conform to the wrong thing instead of trusting in God. But no series of sermons about doing a lot with a little would be complete unless I preached at least once about money.

Rooting For The Underdog
I Samuel 17:1-49
This morning, you are going to hear me do something that I have never done since I’ve been at Park View (and for you smart-alecks in the group, it’s not that I’m going to preach a good sermon for the first time…you’re still going to have to wait for that). Since it is Father’s Day, I thought I would begin my sermon by talking about sports. Because in the entire time I have been here at Park View, I have never once used a sports metaphor in a sermon. Did you know that? There’s a couple of reasons why.

Mustard With Relish
Mark 4:30-34
“Learning to do a lot with a little.” Some of you may think that’s the name of my autobiography, but actually it’s the title I’ve given to a new series of sermons that I’m beginning this morning. With the economy in the shape that it’s in, it seems that there is suddenly quite a bit of interest in learning to do a lot with a little. For the first time in a long time, people are talking more about quality and less about quantity. We’re learning how to cut back, how to save, how to live within our means. And so, I thought it would be appropriate for us to spend some time thinking about this topic, not only because it’s culturally relevant, but also because of where we happen to be in the life of our church.
