Missions at Park View

Thus says the Lord: Maintain justice, and do what is right, for soon my salvation will come, and my deliverance be revealed.

Isaiah 56:1

Immediately after the church was constituted in 1899, the members took up a collection of $5.50 for missions. Since that day, Park View Baptist Church has sought to engage our world and share the good news of Jesus Christ. Most importantly, we believe that "doing missions" begins in our own community. The Park View Civic League meets in our fellowship hall once a month to discuss neighborhood issues and concerns. The church also sponsors a birthday party for residents of Emily Green Shores assisted living facility each November. Another of our other local ministry partners is Edmarc, a hospice that provides care for terminally ill children.

Believing that Jesus calls us to care for the whole person, we engage in mission projects that meet physical as well as spiritual needs. Every August, we sponsor a drive to collect canned and non-perishable items for the local homeless shelter and food bank Oasis. In 2009, Park View teamed up with Portsmouth Volunteers for the Homeless for a week to provide meals for a group of approximately 80 individuals. In addition to these projects, our congregation has also supported the local chapter of Habitat for Humanity over the years.

Park View also has a long tradition of encouraging mission work beyond our home town. We faithfully support the Lottie Moon and Annie Armstrong Offerings, the Alma Hunt Offering for State Missions, and the CBF Global Missions Offering. 100% of what we collect for these offerings goes to support the work of missions. So, whether it is reaching out to our next door neighbors or praying for those across the globe, Park View believes strongly that being faithful to the call of Christ means caring for others in his name.
